Brest Vacation Guide
Everyone comes to Brest with a purpose in mind.
At the end of all earth, Brest is the largest city of western Brittany. Yet you cannot go there by mistake. For the last centuries, it has been the main home of the french navy, and its military tradition is still strong as of today.
Though Brest was almost fully destroyed by the allies during World War II, and rebuilt in the ugliest manner you can conceive -horrible stalinian concrete buildings-, the city has a some hidden charm.
It's a place of culture, with one of the most successfull theater scene outside Paris.
It's a place of exploration, with beautiful natural settings in the close neighbourhood.
It's a place of fun, with a hectic night life and a huge number of bars, pubs, live music spots and restaurants.
"Bienvenue dans la cité du Ponant." (Welcome to the city of the West)

DAY 11
Tuesday 19th June
Had a leisurely breakfast and then said goodbye to Bob and Diane who had made the first part of the trip so pleasurable. That left just JC and me! After we avoided a French destroyer in the Rade de Brest which seemed intent on running us down, had a gentle sail across a b…
