Brescia is a city of about 199.000 inhabitants situated between Milan (70 km) and Venice (140 km). It is between the Padana Plain and the Alps and close to it there are two lakes ( the Iseo one and the Garda one).
Nowadays Brescia is mainly an industrial city but the old city is full of little treasures to see: The Castle upon the Cidneo mount dominates the city: it is a nice place to spend a sunny weekend and also owns a really cool Middle-Age weapons museum. Piazza Loggia in Venetian Style is wonderful with the old city hall projected by the famous Palladio. The Paolo VI Pope Square with the Old and the New Cathedral and the Middle-Age City Hall called "Broletto". But not only, there are other monuments and churches to visit. Moreover, Brescia is among nice areas: Franciacorta and the wine county on West side, Garda Lake and his beautiful castles on East, the Alps on North and Padana Plain on South.

THE LAKE ISLE OF INNISFREE
By William Butler Yeats
I will arise and go now, and go to Innisfree,
And a small cabin build there, of clay and wattles made;
Nine bean rows will I have there, a hive for the honeybee,
And live alone in the bee-loud glade.
And I shall have some peace there, for peace comes dropping slow,
Dropping from the veils of the morning to where the cricket sings;
There midnight's all a-glimmer, and noon a purple glow,
And evening full of the linnet's win...

Dotting the Italian landscape along the interstates (known in Italy as autostrada) is the Autogrill. To many, the Autogrill may look like an eyesore, obscuring the picturesque countryside of Italy with their big, shiny "A" sign, but to us, it is a fabulous place to relax after a long day on the road. Today we stopped in Brescia, less than an hour from Verona. Michael and I enjoyed a plate of gnocchi, fresh fruit and a raspberry/apple pie. Not only is the Autogrill a re...
