Over spring break in 2005 a group of students from my school took a trip down to Rio de Janeiro. We went to help teach English and computer classes at a school and run a basketball camp. Basically we just played with kids all day!!

This was a little village off of the Amazon River. The locals were very helpful and welcoming. One man gave us a canoe ride to the other side of the river and invited us into his home.

Long drive away from Fortaleza (nearly 4 hours) and then you might need a 4x4 car to actually get to the village. But it's worth the trouble. Jericoacoara (or just Jeri) is a protected area with great lagoons and a lively night life. No banks, public eletricity, garbage... just how life should be :)

Florianopolis, Brazil -› -› ...
:) Today was corpus day which is widely celebrated in Brazil, and for this reason EVERYTHING closes, and class got canceled. I took advantage of this by waking up at 6:00AM with a few other girls to hit the beaches. Ever since I have been here I have been waiting for my beach time, and today was the day. We caught the 7AM bus to go to Ingleses, which is a family beach named after the survivors of an English shipwreck who formed a colony there. It is now a very popular hotspot in Florianopolis...

Itacare = Paradiso!!!: Itacare Travel Photos

With limited days left on our trip in Brazil, we wanted to make the most of it escaping the cities, for some laid back R&R, beaches & cheap beer. We couldn´t have picked a better location than Itacare (ee-tack-ar-rar), about 500kms south of Salvador. It has loads of different beaches nestled among tropical vegetation, and loads of surf beaches too! So you could imagine the town has quite a laid back surfy feel.
