My mom and I were on separate flights back to the US, so she boarded a
flight to Dallas while I waited for my flight to Miami. The CCS house
manager in Salvador told me there were medical centers at all of the
airports in Brazil where I could possibly get my third vaccination. I
had to get it on the 15th and it would be too late in the day to get it
once I got back to California. I had a three hour layover in Sao Paulo,
and it was officially the 15th when I got there, so I wandered arou...

had a great time in brasil -- i particularly LOVED bahia - i.e., salvador, morro and boipeba. i will most definitely miss the people - both tourists and locals - the weather and wearing flip flops day in and day out.
the bus ride from buzios to rio was uneventful. a cab driver from the bus station to the airport tried to rip me off by putting the meter on flag 2 -- when it was still daylight. i said, hell no!
as my plane woes go, my flight from rio to dc was delayed... AGA...

I'm aware I can't say I visited Sao Paulo, because I didn't even leave the airport. But at least I put my feet outside the airport, hahaha. My boss wanted to smoke and because it's forbidden doing it inside the buildings, we had to step outside ;)
After almost 3hrs flying, we arrived to Sao Paulo. Sao Paulo is 1 hour ahead from Santa Cruz. Because we were changing airlines, we had to claim our bags and go to the counter. It was my first direct contact with Portuguese - besides the TV - ...

As we were enjoying our last breakfast at Pousada Evelina I heard two loud 'thuds' hitting the glass. Jody was sitting across from me facing the windows and had seen two doves hit the window at full speed. I got up and rushed over to the open window to take a look. There it was.... Poor little thing had obviously broken it's neck. R.I.P. my little feathered friend. *sniff-sniff* There was no sign of the other one. After breakfast we were off to the airport. I'll be heading home in...

So excluding airfare to and from the north, i've set aside roughly R$7000 for the trip (according to my most recent calculations); somewhere between US$3k-4k, toward the lower end of the spectrum.given that i'm going to be travelling during the high season, new years in a party town, and carnival at a party, the question is of course: will dave's money last? i might end up finding that i need to pick up a job on the road. if i'm lucky, maybe i'll run into some rich tourists going somwehre coo...

Cool and rainy day kept me from enjoying one final beach day in Rio. That is ok, because in a few days i will be in the Greek isles.
Took a bus to the airport from a street close to the hostel. This was actually kind of difficult, because the buses came at you pretty fast, and if you didnt wave them down, the bus would pass you by. Since the buses only came every 30 minutes for the airport, it was pretty important to catch the bus. I finally found one, and of course i...

this time i stayed at a hostel, because my friends went to curitiba,
like the moment i came from there, well nevermind the HI hostel praca
das arvores was just round the corner of my friends place, so i knew

WHERE MUSIC AND PASSION ARE ALWAYS IN FASHION
I arrived in Rio at Noon which gave me about 11 more hours to kill in Brasil. Where to? Copacabana, of course. I had hoped to meet up with couchsurfers Antonio or Cecilia, but that did not work out. I never did get my cell phone working there. As it turned out, it was a nice day to just kick back on your backpack on the beach. I would say the air temperature was about mid 70s and there was a slightly warm breez...
