bratislava central station Feb 19, 2009
Bratislava main railway station, Bratislava hlavná stanica slovak short form: Bratislava is the main railway station of Bratislava. It is located at the northern edge of the Old Town, near Šancová street.

The first station building, now serving as headquarters of the railway police, was built in 1848 as a terminus for the Vienna - Gänserndorf - Bratislava (Pressburg) and Břeclav - Bratislava (Pressburg) lines. The second building was built after constructing track to Budapest around 1850s and is used to this day. The third building was built in 1988 as an extension to the existing second building.

At first, the station was also a freight railway station, but as passenger traffic grew, freight loading stations were relocated elsewhere.

Trains from this station depart to Germany, Austria, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Romania, Poland and the rest of Slovakia.

bratislava central station is scary. you go down from the train into the main station - and tarped walls would greet you, dark, gloomy and spiderwebs.

and if your immediately needing to go to the toilet, be sure you have euro coins with you, if its a pay toilette, because im sure they wont give you change in euros back if you gave them paper denominations.

located in the main station is the tourist information of bratislava, some people would be annoying that they want to get in line ahead of you. they have difficulties in speaking english but german would be no problem.

and in the main station entrance, hold your valuables with you, for there are lots of people mostly young boys and bulky men milling around the station, if youre headed to the historical center - be sure to catch the right street train, if not - god only knows where it would take you :D - the map that they would give you is not handy - so be careful if youre alone - some streets dont have streetnames.

and go to the bank or atms - and change immediately there for korüny denominations - never in the black market or someone - because theyll give you fake bills.
