Brasilia Overview

Brasilia is the capital of Brazil. The city was build in four years in the 60's by President Kubitschek. He decided to move the capital from Rio de Janeiro because of lots of protests against the government. The city is really different from other parts of Brazil - full of working ambitious people.

The city has a unique layout in the shape of an airplane. There are monuments (modern cathedral, TV tower, theater, museums, ministry departments) and pubic areas in the cockpit (in the captain position is the president's office. Transportation is designed for cars only (there is even a tunnel to the Cathedral for direct entrance by car, so all distances are huge and sometimes its hard to cross a 14-strip highway. In the wings are residential areas. All of that has an address system which you can easily understand, so it's almost impossible to get lost.

In comparison to other Brazilian cities, Brasilia is slightly more expensive, and there are no cheap hostels at all.
