The second stop of our trip was in Brasov but our main destination was Bran , the Draculas castle. So after 2 hilarious hours with the bus we arrived to Bran. Bran is a small village between the Carpathians whrere there is not much to see except the castle.  We were veeeeeery disappointed to know that our whole trip based on a lie of shorts .This castle wasn't the original Dracula castle but a resident which used for a while. The real one is almost not exist, its in ruins ...

TRANSYLVANIA TIDBITS   In searching on the internet for a poem about the Transylvania blood-sucker, I stumbled across the following by children’s authors Jack Prelutsky and Robert Pottle. I hope these Dracula ditties put a smile on your face… and a bite on your neck :-D     When Dracula Went to the Blood BankBy Jack Prelutsky   When Dracula went to the blood bank,he thoroughly flustered the staff, for rather than make a donation,he drew out a pint and a h...

Bran Castle

Bran Castle (Dracula's Castle) is certainly beautiful and interesting to see, but they do it a disservice by calling it Dracula's Castle - as that gives off the wrong impression of what one is going to experience there.  Accounts of Vlad "The Impaler" Ţepeş (aka Dracula) making his home here are certainly suspect to say the least (he may have spent a day or two in Bran), but it draws in the tourists, so I can't see that changing when the new owners take over (it was recently ...

When in Romania

The place is best described as a European Malaysia: Dirty, smelly, and poor.Except for diffence that the people are rude and its about 1000times smokier.Smoking is a national sport. they have competitions to see who can smoke the most in a day- im sure of it.Some people hold multiple burning cigarettes in their hand at one time (im not joking!)Everyone is constantly trying to rip you off as well. I paid up to 5 times as much for a taxi ride as i knew I should some times..needless to say i had...

Dracula Castle
posted by:

Few places in Romania are more famous than the Bran Castle which is also one of the spots which is given the title Dracula Castle even though it is neither the old residence of Vlad Thebes nor the fictional character of Dracula. But the medieval castle on top of the hill still attracts lots of people with this marketing.   The position of the castle is really impressive up on the hill - but for all this marketing of the place as the highlight of Romania I can't he...

dracula's castle?!?! the main destination of our trip was bran castle... i was so disapointed to see that! 'dragula' is a legent, this castle is so poor... no paintings on the walls, not even many furnitures... almost deserted! the main attraction of the country, but... anyway... this is my personal point of view! i didnt like it at all the only things that i noticed was: dracula must have been a very short person (heheheh) & the whole building had amazing little places for someone to si...

Draculas Castle?

The train from Budapest pulled into Braşov right on time, and I took a bus from the train station to the other end of town where my hostel was.  For those that do not know, there are a couple castles (and ruins) in this area, and some attribute at least one of those to Vlad Tepes, otherwise known as Count Dracula.  I guess the hostel does some tours, but unfortunately not on the day I was there.  I had met two groups of people on the bus ride to the hostel who were planning th...

Castelul Bran
posted by:
Aug 09, 2008 - Aug 15, 2008
Today we took a bus to Castelul Bran (Dracula's Castle) in Bran. The bus was very hot and the ride was very long but it was worth it. The castle was beautiful and learning about the history behind it and Vlad Ţepeş was very interesting. Afterwards we walked around and bought some souvenirs (t-shirts and ie - traditional Romanian blouses for women). After that we ate a delicious Hungarian pastry called kurtos kalacs and waited for the bus to go home. On the way home we stopped at a grocery s...
