Braintree is a market town in the North of Essex, UK, between Colchester and Chelmsford. It has an outlet shopping village on the outskirts of town, and is a convenient place to stop at a supermarket before arriving at Stansted Airport, which is very close by.

The coutryside to the North of Braintree is pretty; the flat plains of south essex give way to a more rolling landscape and the village of Finchingfield in particular is well known for being attractive, if a little crowded with tourists, in the summer. It is a very small village with a traditional green, a windmill and a duck pond.
