The waters surrounding the islands are usually pretty safe to swim in and do the various water activities. Shark sitings are very rare and they should not be worried about. However, about once a month the waters are crowded with unwanted visitors. The Box Jellyfish us a nasty little critter that has quite a sting. Some people have become severely sick from the stings of the jellyfish and there has been a reported death from the sting. Before venturing into the waters try to check the local news. The surf reports will always have warning about the swell of jellyfish. If you just can't wait to hit the beach make sure you check the signs that are posted. At last resort, hit up the lifeguard for the latest on the nasty little villains. You definitely don't want a swollen leg or arm while vacationing in paradise :)
