Great if you pick your time Nov 14, 2010
I know little about ferry fares so that 'cheap' is a bit of a guess. It's £4.00 and 50p single for a car and pedestrian/passenger respectively. The ferry runs all year at 20 minute intervals from near Bowness-on-Windermere to the far side of England's largest lake, lake Windermere, and the road continues to Esthwaite and Hawkshead.

As far as I know it's the only lake ferry in England and the scenery on this route to the Lakeland mountains is excellent. The catch is in the main tourist season when there can be VERY long delays in getting a ferry. There ae notices stating the approximate wait at different points of the road - I mst say one and a half hours would be far too long for me!

However choose your time and you will be onto a winner.
