Not quite 3000 feet - htank goodness. Nov 25, 2010
Bowfell is one of the most popular mountains in the English Lake District. Mercifully it just falls short of the 3000 feet which is a near magical height in the UK - because if it surpassed that it would be crowded out with visitors.

I have been to it from the top of Hardknott Pass but the most favoured route, and I think the best, is a circuit from Great Langdale going up over Crinkle Crags and back over Rossett Pike. if you wanted to shorten the walk (but not to make it less tiring!) there is a route in between the two that is called 'The Band'.

There is one 'bad step' on the traverse of Crinkle Crags - but I've yet to meet anybody who was turned round by it. Form the peak of bowfell the views over the Scafell range are terrific.
