Bourgeois Pig - Los Angeles - TravBuddy

The Bourgeois Pig is a hole-in-the-wall hideway/cafe/lounge on a major thoroughfare of a Hollywood residential area. Overshadowed by the gaudy Church of Scientology Celebrity Center, the Bourgeois Pig exudes an anti-hipster, anti-scenester, anti-franchise, and anti-establishment aura.

The Bourgeois Pig is sandwiched between an independent gift & bookstore and several busy restaurants. The first thing you notice as you walk through the door is the lighting and walls...cobalt blue which seems to give the space a seedy and dark atmosphere. The back room has a pool table and couches. The front seating area has mismatched furnishing and light fixtures like those you see in movies depicting old-school French brothels. Local art work is displayed on the walls but the blue low light does not do them justice. Sidewalk seating is also available.

The Pig is definitely bohemian and artsy and a cool place to hang out. Free Wi-Fi not to mention the coffee, tea, baked goods, sandwiches, and late operating hours draw high schoolers, college students, writers, and neighborhood patrons to this joint.

Mar, Leanne, and I chilled out near the front window. The teas were super hot...beware!...but soothing and fragrant. Mar and I shared the Moroccan mint tea while Leanne had the green tea. To satisfy our sweet tooth, Leanne and I shared the brownie cheesecake...it was OK.

I've been to the Bourgeois Pig several times before during my high school days...and it still has that Un-Hollywood vibe. The Pig is a great place for conversation and just relaxing with a tasty beverage.

Parking is nonexistent for the Bourgeois Pig. We drove around for 15-20 minutes looking for a spot. The best bet for parking is to drive around the residential streets that surround the Pig. A big plus if you are an expert at parallel parking and/or have a small car!
