Overlooks Summer Islands Sep 11, 2007
This is a self-catering bungalow but I have given it 5* for service as the owner lives next door and is very friendly and helpful. On the website it is the right hand of the two properties.
It has one bedroom (twin or double) with a folding bedand/or cot available. The sitting room has a sofa/bed that could accommodate two more but the plates etc are designed for up to four. There is an excellent shower but no actual bath.
Heating, gas for cooking and bed linen are included in the rent.
The sitting room has a wonderful view to Tanera Mor, the largest and only inhabited island of the Summer Islands. Trips to the islands are run in the summer from near where you leave the Achiltibuie road.
A must if you stay here is the drive to Lovhinver vi Inverkirkaig. It is narrow, winding and in parts steep but it may even be the most picturesque roads in Britain!
There are two groups for whom the Bothan cannot be recommended:
1. Those unable to walk down a flight of steep steps from the road.
2. Those who want a pub on the doorstep.
However if you want somewhere remote and peaceful with masses to be seen, it is wonderful.
