Great "boteco" in Rio - where locals go! Oct 27, 2009

Boteco Belmonte is a classic "carioca" bar (also known as "boteco"). It doesn't matter which one you choose to go to, they are always packed - especially after 6pm when most "cariocas" (people from Rio) leave work and go for a happy hour. But you can still find tables or a stool.
The drink is usually cold and light draft beer. But you also can ask for a dark one.
The snacks are fantastic! This is why I go there for. Go for "pasteis" - mini size empanadas filled with all sorts of savoury goods... my favourite is shrimp with catupiry (a kind of Brazilian cream cheese).
The waiters are always friendly and in a happy mood. Service is added to the final bill, 10%.

rio during carnival is crazy. there is literaly a party on every block and no one goes to sleep until the sun comes up the next morning. everyone was so friendly too. going to carnival in the samba dome was so awsome!! ive never seen anything like i…… rio/sao paulo
