The green Island in the middle of the city - Palmengarten Sep 17, 2007
The Palmengarten is located right in the middle of Frankfurt, so it is easy to get to and has a own Parkhaus as well - 1Euro per hour.
In the park you can see all kinds of flowers and plants of the season. It has a few green houses, so you can make a quick botanical trip around the world. Even in the winter it is nice, of course none of the outside flowers, but in the greenhouses you can forget about the snow outside and escape the winter for a couple of hours. The Palmengarten has different exhibitions throughout the year. The biggest one being the Rose- and Lightfest, that usually is a big event with live music and ends with a large firework. Roses are everywhere and people get tealights that they are supposed to lay in pictures in the grass at dark. This is probably the only event geared for the younger crowds. And avoided but "oldfolks" since it is loud, there are many drunks and it has a concert atmosphere. The rest of the year the Palmengarten is a place to relax and just enjoy the beauty of nature. It has a couple of playgrounds, the water playground being the favorite of the children, of course. Part of the Palmengarten - Botanical Garden travel blog |
