Pansion Bascarsija breakfasted at -- on Burek: filodough filled
with spinach (or cheese, or meat) and covered with cream or yoghurt. A
plateful for 2KM. The guy beside me said it's actually a Turkish dish,
he was with the delegation of the Turkish President who is currently in
town. Also purchased some delicious Bosnian sweets (marzipa, coconut,
fig) as gifts from a local store.taxi back to the airport used the meter - and hey, it was 20KM - E10 after all. Do wicenja ...

THANK YOU to everyone who sends me postcards and help make my collection grow! I APPRECIATE IT SO MUCH! If you sent me a postcard and you don't see it in this blog, it means it's still on its way or I never received it because it got lost or someone stole it. Yeah, it happens.

The travel bug was bothering me again and so my best friend and I decided to find the 1st cheap plane ticket to Europe we saw! We booked a flight to Budapest, Hungary for approximately $600 total which was pretty amazing. We wanted an unconventional spring break trip and boy did we get it! We ended up traveling through Hungary, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Slovenia and even a little bit of Italy!

While at Split, I made a sidetrip to Mostar in Bosnia-Hercegovina without Kim as New Zealanders require a visa for entry into the country. Mostar is famous for the historical bridge which collapsed during the Balkan conflict ... many of you will recall images of this on the news. Arrival in the town stirred a sick feeling in me as the bus drove along the former frontline, with ruins of buildings riddled with bullet-holes. Muslims now occupy the old Turkish town (where cafe culture is not only...

Sarajevo Day 2:Went on a great tour today of Sarajevo. One of the guys who runs thehostel took us out to three sites. First we stopped at what is left of thetunnel that ran under the airport that they used to keep Sarajevo alive duringthe siege. It was 800 meters long, there is 60 meters still around that youcan walk through. There was also a little museum set up where we watched avideo about the siege. There was a mortar stuck in the cement right in frontof the tunnel. When mortars hit the g...

Woke up late because I was so tired after the bus ride here. First task of the day, avoid the mental woman. Failed miserably, she was waiting in the room next to me and saw me when I came back from the bathroom. She's like a ghost. Told her that I was going to be spending the day with a fellow english tourist, which was my way of getting out of going to the tunnel museum with her. Feared that if I told her it was a bosnian, she might think it was competition and have her terminated. Back to t...
