Borjomi Overview

With approximately 15.000 inhabitants Borjomi is located in the Lesser Caucasus at an altitude of about 830 metres. The gorge of the river Mtkvari and the surrounding forest hills are perfect for hiking and good views of the region. The town is well known for its mineral water, which is especially popular in the countries of the former Soviet Union.

One of the main sights of Borjomi is the Mineral Water Park, which was opened in 1850. It is nowadays a mixture of a recreation and amusement park, but still very popular for its taps, where people fill their plastic bottles with the healthy warm water.

From the park a cable car can be taken up to the plateau station at an altitude of approximately 930 m.

Other sights of Borjomi include the Church of St. Nicholas, the Museum of Local History and the ruins of the medieval Gogia Fortress. Many remains of the Soviet era can still be found in the town as well.
