A small town of about 2000 inhabitants, Borgarnes is situated on a small peninsula in Borgarfjörður. It is located about 70 km west of Reykjavik and it is connected to Iceland's ringroad through the second largest bridge in Iceland, Borgarfjarðarbrú.
Borgarnes was first mentioned in Egil's saga where it was actually called Digranes. Today, many places related to Egil's saga are to be found in the town an its surroundings, such as the island Brakarey, the Brakar strait ,some street names as: Skallagrímsgata, Kvedúlfsgata, Böđvarsgata and Egilsgata and also a park where the tomb of Skallagrímur (Egil's father)can be found. The town also has a small museum with two parts: one dedicated to the Settlement of Iceland and the second one carefully portraing Egil's saga.

This was actually my first day in Borgarnes and probably the one with the worst weather...as you can see from the photos. It was extremely windy and it was also snowing so what was supposed to be a 2 hours walk around the town basically transformed itself in an entire day thing. And for someone( me!) who was coming from sunny days with 20 degrees Celsius...it was quite difficult to adapt to the conditions at first. On our third day in iceland we made a trip around Snaefellsnes. This is a peninsula with an vulcano on it. There are just a few cottages on it and the rest is only nature. green fields with lava on it. Rugged mountains, snowfields and on it`s end a nice little kaffihuis.
On the way back we saw lots of waterfalls and craters. Unfortunately the vulcano was hidden behind cloudes.
As, we had still time left when we were back at Borgarnes we drove further on to the Hraunfossar. This are kind of...
