Our arrival at Bordeaux Airport went without incident. One hour later, during the evening rush hour, Angela and I were sitting in the hire car on the motorway exit road causing mayhem. “The bloody clutch pedal is stuck,” I shouted at Angela as I tried in vain to get the car to move. “I can't get the thing in gear.” I pointed at the gear stick which refused to budge. The next stop on our intinerary was Bordeaux. Our ancestors were from a small town named St. Fort sur Gironde in the Charentes-Poitou region. Bordeaux was the closest area that we could get to by train. This town was so small that we honestly could not find a way to get out there without renting a car. The summer road trip in 2003 took us in to Andorra, Spain and France. It was a trip of 6500 km over 3 weeks of July.

Together with my good friend Ilse, who I already know since I was 12, I went to Bordeaux for a week. To have some holiday, but also to explore the city before I move there. Bordeaux doesn't seem to have a good reputation in Holland, but it is actually a really nice city! The centre is really old with lots of ancient buildings, churches, and of course wine houses. Of course Bordeaux has good and bad parts (close to the station is one of the worse neighbourhoods), but overall the centre seems ...

Wet, cold and sititng on the side of motorway at 7 am, I couldnt help but be pessimistic. But sure enough, along came a bit of luck and we were picked up by a french stoner carrying seeds back from amsterdam. The social worker and guitar maker drove us 3-4 hours to nantes, where he drove us to the south side to get our next hitch. As he drove off he threw us one of the joints from his special crop. Our last few days in France

We just selected this place, so we could split the trip from Paris to Andorra into two. We did stay at Premium Hotel. I think its bad quality. But its cheap We went to see a Casino, and did try some of the local wine. The casino was all fancy, but the service was so poor. P.S. If you want to enter the casino and play and you are not from France, then remember to bring your passport. Because by France law, everyone has to have a special card in order to be allowed to play.

Darryn and I had discussed where to next more vigorously than we had previously or did again.  He wanted to head to Bordeaux and drink some wine whereas I wanted to take shorter steps through the country thinking our next stop could be Le Mans.  I've said before, it's all new to me so I didn't press for too long and we found a train to take us to the famous wine region.    Upon our arrival into the city Darryn made the comment he thought it was going to be a little village...

Just some of my thoughts and travel from abroad.

This was more of a college town because there wasnt really anything to see there. There was a lot of pubs and kebab places. They did have this pretty cool street that was made just for people to walk. I wasnt sick of kebab's at this point so we ate them quite frequently.
