A street that has been returned to its former glory Feb 06, 2017
Bopiliao or Bo Pi Liao is an area which has been restored and is now one of the best preserved historic sections of Wanhau. Nearly all the buildings are empty but it is possible to enter some of them. The architecture is both Qing and early Japanese era but the area dates back to 1799 when it was known as Fupiliao. After the area was restored it was open to the public in 2009 and each day a steady stream of tourists visit Bopiliao. It mainly consists of shop-houses from the Qing Dynasty (1683 - 1895) and buildings erected during the Japanese occupation (1895–1945). The area lies between Kangding Road, Guangzhou Street and Kunming Street and was on the main route from Bangka to Guting Village in the Qing Dynasty. Also during the Qing Dynasty there was a military base situated at one end of the street.
