Boothaus am Eisernen Steg Frankfurt am Main Reviews
Jun 19, 2007
Das Boothaus sits moored on the bank of the Main in the shadow of one of the number of bridges that span the river. A converted barge, it's wide, open terrace gives a panoramic view of the riverbank to one side and the river traffic to the other.
Long trestle tables span each side of the deck with the possibility of opening an awning if the heavens open (or in fact if the sun gets too hot) and a number of heaters for when the evenings start to get that bit chillier. Although it looks to be a permanent mooring the place is only open for part of the year and so is definitely a summer attraction.
Although the river is not exactly rough you can feel the boat gently undulating below you. Passing boats add to this this and the whole café will bump against the bankside in the wake of larger vessels.
The menu was suprisingly extensive with food ranging from breakfast and kaffe und kuchen to full-blown evening meals. Similarly drinks start at tea and coffee and work their way through wine to the ubiquitous beer. The food is extremely reasonable, possibly even cheap - making this the ideal place to meet friends and while away the long summers evenings as you watch the world (and various boats) go by.
