Boone Tavern Hotel Reviews

While there is not a lot to do in Berea, KY there is a pretty neat place to stay the night. The Boone Tavern Hotel sits conveniently in the College Square surrounded by the college campus and lots of great little places to shop. The hotel is named after the old explorer Daniel Boone, for those of you who actually know who that is :)
What makes this place really unique is that it is furnished with all handmade furniture created by the Wood Working Department of Berea College. What this means is that the majority of the furniture here is carved by students attending the college. Of course, it is not all old-style. The handmade furniture is well accented with modern amenities that you are sure to enjoy. :) The second interesting thing is that the majority of the hotel staff is college students as well. This is an agreement with the college and the hotel for a work-study program. So the students working here are all part-time making less than minimum wage(so be nice). Sounds pretty crappy but the great thing is that they don't pay tuition because of it. By staying here you are helping to pay tuition for low-income students. There is also a restaurant located on-site and I have only ate at it twice and it was for school, so we had a pre-approved menu. Therefore, I can't attest to how good the restaurant actually is. The food I was served however, was pretty good. You can also find the unforgettable dish-spoon bread. Again I am kind of afraid of this but you should at least give it a try if you are in the neighborhood. |
