Succulent chicken rice in East Coast area Nov 20, 2012
Boon Tong Kee is a restaurant chain that specializes in (you guessed it, chicken rice) since 1979. Their first restaurant was set up in 1983 along Balestier Road. They have seven outlets in Singapore and at least a couple more in the Philippines which opened in 2012.

I am a big fan of chicken rice, from the cheapest ones costing a little over SGD 2 at the food centers, to the high end restaurants costing over SGD 10. We had to walk a bit to find the restaurant along East Coast Road, but it was worth all the walking. The restaurant didn't stand out as it was not that fancy (more like a hole in the wall place), but the dining experience was something else.

The specialty Hainanese chicken rice was juicy and flavorful, even though it was the steamed variety (I prefer the roasted variety). There were also specialty side dishes like poached Chinese Spinach with Assorted Eggs, as well as Crispy Cereal Prawns. I still prefer the chicken rice, so I ate the most. There are the usual trio of sauces available (dark soy sauce, ginger paste and chicken rice chili sauce).

All in all, we spent a little over SGD 45 for the four of us hungry souls looking for the best in Singapore's national dish.
