Books To Read While In France Jan 29, 2010
I am an avid reader who enjoys nothing more then curling up at night with a good book. I especially love to read while I travel. I decided to compile a list of some of my favorite books that I feel are magical to read while actually visitng the country that they are set in! I'll add more as I think of them and if you have any recommendations, let me know!
1. The Count Of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas
- This is one of my favorite books of all time. I have reread it several times. Written in the mid-1800s, it's a tale about a young man who has everything in the world going for him. He's engaged to the love of his life and is about to become the captain of a ship. The only problem is that he has jealous rivals who frame him for a crime he did not commit. He is taken to an Alcatraz-type prison. He miraculously escapes 14 yrs later and sets out to seek revenge on those who have wronged him. It's an amazing book with as many happy moments as sad moments and it takes place in several parts of France as well as some scenes in Italy!
2.The Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown
- A mystery novel about a symbologist who tries to solve the murder of the curator of the Louvre. It combines fiction with historical fact and many of the clues to solving the murder can be found in Da Vinci's paintings. It's an exciting book that takes you all over the historical monuments of Paris. Once you read the first page, it's impossible to put it down!
i have to run to work....more coming when i get back!
