Ok, this was work, but it counts as traveling since I was out of town...Near Dos Palmas Oasis, the Coachella Canal snakes through the dry, desolate slope between the Chocolate Mountains Aerial Gunnery Range and the back side of the Salton Sea. It carries water from the Colorado River to the fruit orchards and golf courses of Palm Springs and the Coachella Valley. While North Shore is abandoned, Bombay Beach, another failed resort town to the south, remains as sort of post apocalyptic trailer park. The infrastructure has been taken over by various desert dwellers who have cobbled together houses and homesteads usually built around the hulk of the original trailer or foundations of planned vacation houses.
