Boise City Vacation Guide
Boise City is located in the western tip of the Oklahoma panhandle. As a result it has quick access to four additional states via the Courthouse Roundabout in the middle of town.
The city was founded by two land swindlers, JE Stanley and AE Kline. Boise means trees, and the two men printed phamplets that told of tree lined streets, giving the town it's name. Buyers found an expansive prairre filled with buffalo grass and nothing else. Somehow the town labored forward. It was hit particularly hard during the Dust Bowl.
Today Boise City is the county seat of Cimmaron County and had a population of about 1500.
The town's greatest claim to fame is to be the only US city bombed during WW II. It happened when to US bombers, on a nightime practice run got lost and mistook the city for it's target. The bombers were loaded with dummy bombs, so no one was hurt.
