We had barely arrived and now it was time to go! Thank god our flight was leaving in the afternoon so we still had a wee bit of time to go around. After a quick breakfast, we packed our bags, dumped them in the car and drove up the road to visit a couple more ancestral homes. We just couldn't get enough of these balays!!They were right off the national highway and right by the sea. I don't remember who owned the first one or even its background, but the one feature that I liked about it was t...

Day 3: Postcards Come to Life - Updating.........

We intended to wake up early today so that we can visit Baclayon Church and the Blood Compact site, but unfortunately, laziness got the better of us (as always). So from supposedly 7AM, we got up at around 9AM. I asked the hotel's reception about the schedules of ferry trips between Tagbilaran and Cebu. Had we gotten up on time, we would've taken the 8AM trip. However, since it's already late, we decided to take the 12PM trip instead. But of course, being on time is not really one of our best...

Panglaos Pleasures

The full weekend had to end, and after a sumptuous buffet breakfast and one last stroll of Bohol Beach Club's wide white beach, off we made our way back to Cebu by ferry to catch the flight home to Singapore. At the pier in Bohol, we chanced upon a sea gypsy mother and her little baby boy on their little outrigger boat, looking up from the water to the passengers on the boarding deck, asking for alms--a beauty to behold and a sad plight to witness at the same time... Without thinking mu...

It's 4:45 in the morning. We're supposed to wake up in time for the dolphin-watching and island activity. But alas, we're still in our own dreamlands. I wonder what was my dream....hmmm..dolphins...more dolphins... 6:00 am - still asleep 7: 00 am - still asleep 8:00 am - still asleep....tsk tsk tsk.... 8:30 am - As I managed to open my eyes and saw the light coming from the glass wall of our room, I arose quickly and began to realized that we're way too late for the trip. I checked my cel...

Philippine Adventures . . .
posted by:
Apr 06, 1997 - Jun 19, 2008
Each visit to the Philippines is an adventure starting with the flight from the east coast until I return.  It is about 25 hours total travel time from when I get on that plane in Virginia until I finally land on the island.  I usually get a combined 1 hour sleep for the duration of the entire journey.  Maybe in the back of my mind, I'm thinking "The Langoliers" I land in Manila at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport very late and it is past midnight by the time I walk out o...

Eight Hours in Bohol
posted by:
Mar 20, 2008 - Mar 22, 2008
It had just been 2 days but it seemed we have done and seen a lot of things already. And today, we were off for Bohol... The supposed "highlight" of this trip. We took the 6AM OceanJet ferry out of Cebu. This ferry was a lot better than what we have expected it to be--- airconditioned cabin, comfortable seating, systematic check-in and boarding. If not for the 30-minute delay, the 2 hours of sailing with Ocean Jet could have been perfect. And so when we arrived in Bohol, our tour guide...

Wide Awake Under the Sun in Bohol
posted by:
Feb 11, 2007
I surprised my family when I came home on Friday, Feb 9th, to the Philippines and announced I'm going with them to Bohol. I am so glad I decided to go because as expected it was sooo fun with us cousins goofing around and just laughing our hearts out (although it would have been the best if all of us cousins were complete) and I was able to be with Daddy M and Mommy B for even a few days. We owe a lot to our "adopted cousin", Tita T, for organizing everything for us. ;) I am so proud of my ...

Kiss the tarsier
posted by:
May 06, 2007 - Jun 11, 2007
Today I had the urge to throttle someone.  I was at the Loboc Tarsier site, a DENR-approved site.  The DENR probably decided to make one as a counter to all the illegal Tarsier cages that had proliferated before.  I was jostling for pictures like everyone else, while one of the minders said, "No flash, please".  I usually don't use flash anyway, and something about those eyes made me instinctively not use it.  I was just about to take a photo, when next to m...

From Cebu, I got to Bohol thru a ferry. I was a bit nervous about taking this ferry because I do get seasick even with just 45 minutes of ferry ride, and this ferry trip would be almost 2 two hours. I was expecting torture but surprisingly, I didn't get seasick. Maybe because the ferry was bigger or maybe because I slept during most of the trip, hehe. I have been to Bohol before, last year in fact with my family (read my blog about it here). I had a fantastic time at Bohol then, so I really ...
