Bogra Vacation Guide
Located in north-western Bangladesh, Bogra is a small district town. It serves as a transport hub for access to the north-western province of Rajshahi, and is accessible from Dhaka in about 4 hours by bus travelling on good surfaced roads.
The town is located close to the Mahasthangarh historical park, the site of Bangladesh's first capital city. The site contains ruins of the perimeter wall of the city, as well as small museum containing artefacts from the site.
Bogra is also a good base for trips to Parahpur, another historical site in north-western Bangladesh. Pahapur is the remains of a 7th century monastery, and is a very large archaeological site.
In the town of Bogra itself there is the Nawab Bari museum and amusement park. This house is the former home of a wealthy landowner, and has a small collection of period furniture and ornaments on display in the house. The amusement park is very small, consisting of a handful of very small rides for children, and some concrete animals.
Bogra is famous for yoghurt-based sweets. The former President of Bangladesh, Ziaur Rahman, was born in Bogra.

We'd got two main places we wanted to see near Bogra: the archaeological sites at Paharpur and Mahastangarh. Fate would conspire against us, however. If there's one thing we should have learnt, it's not to try to run to a tight schedule in the Indian subcontinent.
We headed to Mahastangarh on day …
