Martabak Malabar - Indonesian Omelete Aug 16, 2011
Martabak is the Omelete type of food, but it has a skin made from flour. Martabak mesir itself was different because it was eaten with the kind of light soya sauce which enrich the flavor of the Martabak. It was different with the kind of Martabak were sold outside west sumatra.
This place was famous among locals for Martabak Mesir. You can tell by the place which always packed with people. Some even do reservation in advance. It was only open after 5 PM, because the restaurant was actually a shop selling simple furniture, beds & pillows in the day.
We tried the famous Martabak Malabar Special and lamb curry for share with Jarno. For drinks I ordered Teh tarik and jarno choose Teh Telur ( tea with egg - can you imagine? ). It was taste excellent and quiet a big portion of omelet! Other than that it also offers the roti prata type, fried rice and beef soup. We saw many people ordering the beef soup, so i bet it taste good too.
It was totally not expensive, cause one of Martabak only cost us 16000 Rupiah and drinks for maximum 7000 rupiah. It was worthed.
However the place is for eating only, unless you come little late when less people eating then you have more space for you to stay longer. The time we came for open fasting, we have to sit side by side with other people in the long table.
