Body & Soul House Music Event Tokyo Reviews
Dance Your Night Away-All Day! Jun 27, 2012
I have a few questions before you read this review. Do you like to dance? Do you like House and other forms of club music like electro and disco and cool soul and funk? Well if you are in Tokyo during the Body & Soul event then this is for you. It is held every year once or twice in Tokyo and sometimes in another Japan location. This year it will be on July 24th,2011 in it's usual location in Odaiba, Tokyo.
Here's a little rundown of the history. In New York's City's Tribeca section in the late and early 2000's there was a party at Club Vinyl called Body & Soul. It was more than a party. It was considered a spiritual journey for deep soulful house music lovers. It was a Sunday afternoon party that lasted 'til around midnight. Already known for it's legendary "Shelter" parties on Saturday night run by Timmy Regisford, Vinyl was the place to be. People from all over the world and the US flocked to Tribeca to come to "Church". Black, White, Asian, PI, Native, gay, straight...in between...whatever was your identity you had a home at Body & Soul. Never have I seen people in tears over the depths of music and warmth and human bonds. Not a drug filled rave but a sea of love.
Well times changed and venues closed but the spirit lived on.The tour continues annually with legendary DJ's Danny Krivit, Francois-K, and Jouaquin "Joe" Claussell, who come together to take you though the entire range of deep, soulful house music. You will hear tracks and remixes from artists like The Ananda Project, Osunlade,Black Coffee, Kenny Bobien, Culoe De Song, Monday Michiru, Jazztronic, DJ Kawasaki, Julius Papp, Blue Six, Dennis Ferrer, King Britt, Masters At Work (Lil' Louie Vega and Kenny "Dope"),KOT and Sandy Rivera, Solu Music, Peven Everett, Theo Parrish, Moodyman, Bah Samba, Blaze, Larry Levan, Ian Friday, Mondo Grosso,Tom & Joyce, Ive Mendes, Charles Webster, Quentin Harris, Teddy Douglas, Larry Heard, Frankie Knuckles, Matty Heilbronn, Kerry Chandler, Dmitri From Paris, Studio Apartment, Marques Wyatt, Ralf GUM, Terra Deva, Franck Roger, Reel People, 4hero, Jerome Syhenham, Dj Deep(Paris), Rasmus Faber, Soul Heaven, Barbara Tucker, Shuya Okino, Roy Davis Jr., Boddhi Satva and more.
The location is outside under a super huge tent with thousands of Tokyo's funnest folks from the world over. The location is the east of Tokyo in Minato Ward's Odaiba, a large artificial island in the bay of Tokyo.(see map at site for train access). It is at the seaside court in front of Venus Fort, the shopping mall. Bring a backpack with a dry t-shirt and your good dancing shoes as well as something soft to sit on. Make hundreds of new friends in one day. It costs about 50-70 US dollars but if you make it to Tokyo you will find it is worth it. from 11-am to 8pm.
