Bodega Patong Reviews
Awful town, fantastic hostel Nov 26, 2010
The Bodega has one of the best ratings on Hostelworld.com and justly so! This is by far the nicest place I have stayed at in Thailand.
There are only two dorms available. I spent a night in the 8-bed dorm at the top floor of the main building, which was very comfortable. It is air-conditioned, has two bathrooms, lockers and a large balcony.
The other night I spent in a single room with shared bathroom. The bathroom is shared with only one other room and situated in between the two bedrooms. Slightly awkward if you forget to lock the second door during your midnight bathroom stop, but ultimately it means you can expect the bathroom to stay a bit cleaner than is usually the case with shared facilities.
And, being situated in a separate building, it was very nice and quiet too.
The has a very nice bar and restaurant, which is a great place to hang out and meet other travellers. The food menu is an excellent mix of authentic Thai and traveller’s favourites. The coffee and breakfast in the morning are absolutely stellar!
And, best of all, there is very affordable beer during happy hour - which is something you learn to appreciate when you're on Phuket, trust me!
Staff is a bit hit and miss. They are very friendly, but finding one that speaks English can be a challenge, finding one that has a longer attention span than that of a goldfish even harder. That said, I found this to be the case pretty much everywhere in Southern Thailand.
All this popularity and niceness comes at a price though - it ain’t cheap! The dorm cost me 350 baht, the rooms were between 800 and 1200, which is double the price of an average room in Northern Thailand.
