A must-do in Buenos Aires! Jun 25, 2009
Last weekend I had visitors to Buenos Aires and we went for an evening of tango in "La Boca", Buenos Aires. The setting and atmosphere were perfect. Boca is a traditional, folkloric area of Buenos Aires, full of colourful houses and cobbled streets...
The tango was equally as impressive, it began with a comic take on immigrant life in the 30's and progressed to fulfil the more glamorous, elegant expectations we have of tango, accompanied by a fantastic orchestra! We ate nearby, in a small restaurant decorated with antiques and Argentine memorabilia; all in all it was a thoroughly fascinating evening, which I will never forget! A MUST for every Buenos Aires visitor…

After the first of seven identical breakfasts we had in BA, we headed straight for La Boca.  Birthplace of Tango, La Boca is an old immigrant neighborhood down by the riverside.  It equates roughly with the Lower East Side in New York, thought it's bright, multi-colored buildings tend to liven the place up.  Honestly, we thought… The Pink House, The Obelisk, and The Chocolate Box. Where am I, Vegas?

Boca This is where you see the multi-colored buildings and where tango was begun. La Boca is a small area, maybe a square mile. It is a very touristy area with shops and outdoor cafes. I wouldn’t spend much time here. Puerto Modero… Buenos Aires - The look and feel of Europe in South America

We only had a 20 minute stop and, in retrospect, I'd have given up some of the rest of the tour for more time at La Boca; it was absolutely charming. The second stop was at the cemetery at Recoleta where the principal mission was a visit to the tomb of Eva Peron. The cemetery was much like that at Pere Lachaise in Paris and it, too, deserved more time. I was shocked to see how modest Evita's tomb… La Boca, Recoleta and the Tango Show

It included the very different areas, street tango and by La Boca Juniors football stadium, best known for the "overweight and old at 45" Maradona. Would not want to lose our way in some of the dodgy neighbourhoods. Seems that shoes hanging from power cables highlight the presence of drug… Buenos Aires

In some of the restaurant the Tango dancer will entertain while you are eating your lunch. Not far is the Boca Soccer Jnr Stadium. It is the home of Boca Junior Soccer club. Diego Maradona did play with the club.   Of course, the main reason folks go to La BocaColorful La Boca
