Bob's Garage Pittsburgh Reviews
Get a feel for the locals, then move on Mar 04, 2011
Bob's Garage is actually located in Blawnox, which is in the north shore suburbs of Pittsburgh. It's a small (cozy?) place with a very large bar in the center of the room, and small tables all around the sides of the building. Apparently, for locals, it's expensive (Yuengling was $3.75), but for me coming from DC where those pints can run you $6 to $7, I was in heaven.
Bob's Garage goes all out for major bar holidays; when I was there, St. Patrick's Day was a few weeks away, so it was all decked out in green; shamrocks, lights, etc. This adds to the cozy atmosphere.
Karaoke on Friday nights is as amusing as any other Karaoke in a local bar; you get some surprising talent (like the 350lb white guy who totally owned Blue Suede Shoes) and you get some bizarre entries (like the white guy and black guy doing a drunken duet of "Ebony and Ivory").
I'd tag this as a good place to stop in and get a beer when you pull into town to get a feel for the local scene; but don't make it the highlight of your Pittsburgh visit!
