Blythe is located on the California-Arizona border where Interstate 10 crosses the Colorado River. The city of Blythe was named for English developer/financier and gold prospector Thomas Blythe, who first came here in 1877 and established primary water rights on the Colorado River. Hiking, off-road vehicle sports, hunting, exploring ghost towns, rockhounding and prospecting are just a few of the recreational activities available in the neighboring desert around Blythe.

Finally on the state border at Blythe, CA and Ehrenberg, AZ. We stopped at the Best Western just over the border at a Truck stop, and found our room for the night. My sister was DONE (overdone) with living in El Paso, Texas! She invited me to fly down from Portland, pack up the Ford Focus with some light boxes, the two of us, two kids, and "Bunny" the hampster. We left El Paso, and set out across the southern deserts of New Mexico, Arizona, and California on I-10. Then, headed north on I-5 through California's Central Valley, the southern Oregon Siskiyous, and the Willamette Valley to Portland. (Tracie and the kids continued on to settle in Seattle.)

Continuing my trip to Nevada, I pulled into a commercial park right on the banks of the Colorado River. This park was terrible with families, screaming kids, drunken men and women and noisy boats and watercraft. Summary: Elk RV Parking: 32; Escapee RV Parks: 20; Public RV Parks: 20; National Parks: 32; Ships: 9; Forts: 17 Expenses: 24 months on the road with an average of $1844/month.
