Blue Ridge Parkway ~ North Carolina Jun 29, 2016
I had the privilege of living in the Blue Ridge Mountains near Brevard, North Carolina for a year. I drove the Parkway many times. I can honestly say, it's one of my favorite places in the world. There's something about those mountains that transcends your mind into another place and time. Listen to the local mountain music while you're driving and you'll feel like you've stepped into another world. At times you'll drive around a bend and the view will literally take your breath away. If you go North on the Parkway from Asheville you can stop off at the visitor center and pick up a few souvenirs or a CD of the locals playing their music. Then drive about 19 miles and visit Mt. Mitchell, the tallest mountain East of the Mississippi. Once on the Parkway, you can drive for awhile and then take a detour to get off and head back to the highway, or just turn around and go back the way you came from. There are no gas stations along the Parkway that I've seen, so prepare for that. Also, other than the visitor center near Asheville and Mt. Mitchell, I'm not aware of anyplace else to use a bathroom. There's no entrance fee. Watch out for cyclists on the road.

Breathtaking views, amazing road! Jan 20, 2009
The Blue Ridge Parkway is probably the most beautiful road east of the Mississippi river. The road curves up and down the Blue Ridge Mountains and in the summer and fall you can see every color imaginable off the overlooks. If you ride motorcycles, this road is perfect as long as you don't get a speeding ticket. If you do, expect to get triple the fine of a regular speeding ticket and if you want to dispute it in person you'll have to go to the federal court of the state you got caught in. There are overlooks approximately every five miles or so and I highly recommend you stop at some and take pictures. In the fall, the parkway is surrounded by Floridiots taking pictures, so don't haul too fast or you'll wipe out half of Florida's population.
