Blue Note

Blue Note Bar at Shangri-La’s Tanjung Aru Resort and Spa, Kota Kinabalu has just reopened following a facelift, and the ambience is cosy and funky with a hip happening atmosphere.

After an incredible four-day transformation, Blue Note opened its doors to genuinely impressed guests, both first-timers and regulars alike. The walls have been repainted white, with portions studded at odd intervals with silvery mirrored tiles that seem like they belong on disco balls, particularly along the back of the club’s main bar. The bar can now sit 175 guests in separate areas.

An immense, uniquely organic lighting installment looms above the dance floor, casting a soft incandescent glow complemented by dozens of candles in various shapes and sizes positioned around the area.

At the back portion of the bar, an enclosed area with floor-to-ceiling glass panels, offers a quiet and cosier place for conversation away from Blue Note’s now-familiar beats of electronica and house music.

Guests also get unobstructed view of the DJs as they take centre stage. Blue Note features famous DJs in Malaysia every Friday and Saturday to entertain guests instead of the loud music from a live band. From Sundays to Thursdays, the in-house DJ will be entertaining guests with house music for a chill out ambience. Meanwhile, Thursdays are Ladies’ nights or “Cover Girl Night” when girls can get free makeovers.
Blue Note has extensive selections of Martini, whisky, tequila, grappa, scotch, cognac and brandy, red and white wines, champagnes and irresistible cocktails. It also offers international as well as local beers and healthy juices. An a la carte menu is available for those who enjoy light snacks with their drinks.

Blue Note is open from 6 p.m. to 1 a.m. on Sundays to Thursdays and until 2 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, and there is a cover charge of RM30 inclusive of one complimentary house-pouring drink.
