A lovely, charming farm / cottage on a hill overlooking the dark gray 'sandur' plains of lava sands. It's in the Skaftafell national park and one of few affordable options.
It's run by a friendly man.

There are two cabins with 6 beds each (3 bunk beds each), serving as dorm rooms. Each cabin has a decent hot shower / bathroom. There is a separate kitchen with indoor and outdoor seating, and all kitchen equipment. Bring your own food.

In summer you need to book well in advance, and ask about getting the car / your gear up to the guesthouse (perhaps it's only allowed to drop your luggage, but not to drive up and down the hill all the time... in winter this is not a problem).

Skaftafell national park has lots to offer: glacier tongues, waterfalls, beautiful black/white rock faces, hiking, the 'Sel' old farm with grass rooftop.
