Blithewold Nansion, Garden and Arboretum Bristol Reviews
A sequoia in Rhode Island! What! Nov 17, 2010
For about 5 bucks, you can wander around this massive expanse of land. I thought it was really going to just be a quick walk in and out, but I had to force myself to leave (cause I wanted to visit some other places and was burning my time).
Their is ample parking and you get to see a variety of plants and trees that the original owners of the mansion and surrounding property collected during their travels. There is a rock garden, an Asia-styled garden, a forest on the premise, a broken down dock near the bay where you sit and watch the water and boats and collect shells, and an enclosed garden. The 45-room mansion is only open at certain times in the the season and Blithewold is a popular place for weddings.
It is quite a serene place to visit during the low season and when you are by yourself, to walk, and sit, and read the signs placed on certain trees or in certain areas. It is a good place to have to yourself and take in nature. Young children may or may not enjoy it as much. The property is not really wheelcahir accesible for older members of the family as there are no smooth paths.
There are seasonal highlights (Christmas lights) and special events (afternoon tea), so be sure to check the website before visting.
