I spent 8 months in Bosnia on a research fellowship for graduate school. It was a great experience and I got to travel around the region quite a bit. I'd highly recommend the Balkans if you are looking for adventure, hospitality, great food. It is also gentle on your wallet. Enjoy the photos.

One of my first trips outside of Budapest. My friend and I traveled the length of the country by rail. We visited Ljubljana, Lake Bled, and Piran, where we met all sorts of characters and enjoyed the beautiful scenery.
