Blanes Vacation Guide

Blanes is located in the Spanish region of Catalonia (half way between Barcelona and Girona). It is boundary between two sea-costs Costa Brava and Costa del Maresme. It's very near to Lloret de Mar and Tossa de Mar.

This was once a small fishing town and still retains some of its original charm though the main beachfront is now lined with high rise buildings and all the trappings of modern tourism.

We can see there the castle of Sant Joan, commissioned in the middle of the 13th century, although the tower is from the times of Charles I; and a monumental site with Gothic buildings from the 14th and 15th century. The next to see is the Gothic fountain from 14th century in the old Blanes center. From there you can visit the church of Nuestra Señora de la Esperanza. Blanes is famous for its two botanical gardens Mar i Murtra and Pinya Rosa.
