Blue Ridge Mountains, New River Valley, and Virginia Tech Hokie football...a trifecta which makes Blacksburg a relaxing and exciting place to visit.

Situated in the beautiful mountains of southwest Virginia, Blacksburg represents small-town USA at its finest. The classic mainstreet is lined with enough shops and restaurants to suit all tastes. With its close proximity to Jefferson National Forest and the New River, the town is a popular starting point for backpacking, bicycling, whitewater rafting, hiking and camping treks.

Blacksburg is also home to Virginia Tech, a top research and engineering university. Blackburg's population of approximately 41,000 is more than 50% student, and the university's presence can be felt in almost all aspects of the town. It is a popular venue for concerts, stage productions, and research conferences.

During the autumn months, some of the top NCAA teams in the country come to compete against the Virginia Tech Hokies. For any fan of tailgating and college football, Blacksburg is a "must visit" location. The atmosphere at Lane Stadium makes Blacksburg a regular stop for ESPN's College Gameday.

David and I talked music and the others slept most of the way. Those guys are crazy so we had fun. They kept me entertained on the LOOONG drive thru Virginia! Along the way, there was always interesting things to look at: like the water tower that was painted to look like a hot air balloon! (I still think its cute, e...
