Named for its dark-colored sand.

Cautions: NOT RECOMMENDED, listed for information only.

The trail has been closed for several years, and is eroded and dangerous. Two hikers were critically injured here in 1998.

Location: Golden Gate National Recreation Area, North of the Golden Gate Bridge

Black Sand Beach Activities: Swimming is not advised

Getting to Black Sand Beach: North of the Golden Gate Bridge, at the top of the hill on Conzelman Road

Laws regarding nudity at the naturist beach vary by location and fines are stiff in some places. I have made every effort to provide accurate information, but the responsibility for knowing the law at Black Sand Beach is yours.

From the sounds of it, I'd say it would be something interesting to look at... but nothing special. Sounds awesome though, huh? Usually I'd try to stay away from black sands... they give off a bad vibe if you know what I mean.

Rating is just my estimation, based on Google research. It looks like the beach

is on the north side of the Golden Gate Bridge, is somewhat difficult

and dangerous to get to, and is frequented by homosexual men, sometimes

having sex on or near the beach. This may be your cup of tea, but this

and other web reviews don't make the place sound too encouraging.

I've never heard of a black sand beach in San Francisco area. But I did see many beautiful black sand beaches on the big island of Hawaii. That island also has a green sand beach!

The book failed to mention all those other points. Thanks for the info.
