Black River Great Morass Reviews
Sailing the Black River May 03, 2011
We were looking for a tour operator to take us to the Black River Great Morass and got recommended the Irie tour operator. After some search and a little help from some locals in Black River we finally found it and bought tickets for 1h 10m river ride for 20$.
The boat sailed shortly after and we took the seats in the sun where the photo opportunities would be best. After 10 minutes we picked up some passengers from another boat that had engine troubles and then the boat was full.
It didn’t take long before the captain started to say strange noises and a croc came swimming from the shore towards the boat. The croc even had a name; George! We later ran into Barry and some others of their friends – all crocs with names.
The trip was somewhat disappointing. We saw some crocs in their natural habitués which was nice but there were disappointingly few birds and the guide was only focused on the crocs. When that is stated it was really nice to sail on the beautiful river and looking at the mangrove trees.
I guess my bar for River tours was set pretty high in Nicaragua one year ago, where I had some wonderful trips and that was far from surpassed here.
