Black Box Belfast Reviews
What happens inside the Black Box? Jun 25, 2011
The Black Box is a music venue, a place to eat pizza or grab a coffee, and is also host to a number of other events such as zine fairs, photography exhibitions and poetry readings.
There are two areas within the venue, one with some sofas and chairs for smaller events where they sometimes they project cartoons onto one of the walls (this is called the Green Room) and another larger room with a stage (called the Black Box). The walls are painted black you see.
It's everything an independent art venue should be: reasonably priced, friendly, good looking and beautifully laid back. It attracts a very mixed crowd which I found fascinating. It was as if the whole of Belfast's creative contingency were hanging out there (probably not true, but I can pretend). And there always seems to be a good variety of stuff going on so you'll probably find something you enjoy. Even the open mic nights were amazing here!!
The friendliness of the staff was what made this place great though. You can tell I'm a Londonder because I'm used to such extreme snobbiness in indie venues in the capital that the Black Box was incredibly refreshing.
