This is a great choice of accommodation for backpakers. It is just a little bit far from the city center, but instead it is located in a cozy neighborhood. Of course, you can find many shops and restaurants nearby. The distance to the city center is only 20 min by walk.

The hostel is under supervision of a friendly couple ... a British guy and an American gal (from Chicago). They will provide you anything you need. The environment is quite good. You can enjoy by spending your time with them in the neighbor pub.

kelly is right, this is not Birmingham Backpackers. Birmingham backpackers is in the city centre. And the American and British couple you talk of run the central backpackers, I know i have stayed at both of these hostels. I assume this other hostel is using the good name of the real birmingham backpackers. I saw your link, yet you cannot book for them. This is the real birmingham backpackers. http://www.birminghamcentralbackpackers.com/ or http://www.birminghambackpackers.com/

I would not suggest anyone stays at the Merrymaid hostel. Its too far out, not very clean and not in a nice area atall.
