The Birchmere Mar 24, 2009
The Birchmere is a popular club/concert venue in the Washington, DC, region for folk, folk-rock, jazz, and pop music. It styles itself a music hall. It’s a legendary venue in music circles and the careers of many bands and performers have been launched here.
The Birchmere’s web site lists upcoming performers with links to their own web sites. (There is a web archive of past performances where you can see who has appeared at the Birchmere.) Shows begin at 7:30 p.m. with a warm-up act before the headliner appears. All tickets are general admission with seating at tables arranged in a U around the stage. Performers sometimes come down off the stage to greet audience members in this intimate setting. Food and drink can be ordered prior to performances, beginning at 6:00 p.m. So, sit back with your favorite beverage and enjoy great music and atmosphere! (The Birchmere has no age restrictions for its audience.) Check it out when you are in the Washington area! You may see a new rising star or a long-time favorite! A sales area offers CDs, T-shirts, posters, and other artist merchandise. (Cameras are not permitted so I can't show you the inside. You'll have to look at the web site.)
