Binnenhof The Hague Reviews
Binnenhof Sep 01, 2009
The Binnenhof or "inner court" is a complex of buildings in The Hague. It has been the location of meetings of the Dutch parliament since 1446, and has been the centre of Dutch politics for many centuries.
The grounds on which the Binnenhof now stands were purchased by Count Floris IV of Holland in 1229, where he built his mansion. Next to teh complex is a little lake called the Hofvijver or 'Court Pond'. More buildings were constructed around the court such as the Ridderzaal where the queen holds her annual speech at Prinsjesdag. One of the towers, simply known as het Torentje ('the Little Tower') has been the office of the Prime Minister. This 'Inner Court' is studded with monumental old buildings testifying of eight centuries. All are freely open to the public. A neogothic fountain adorns the main square. The large modern building at the south side of the Binnenhof houses the House of Representatives. Part of the The Hague (Den Haag), The Netherlands, 2009 travel blog |

After the tour we took a walk past the royal carriage house and the Binnenhof, the complex of buildings where government sits, with Rudolph providing informative overviews. Our tour proceeded through a park that seemed quite familiar, because we had already seen it through Rudolph’s brilliant photography on this site. On the fringe of the park… A Day in Den Haag |
