Bigfoot Hostel Antigua Antigua Guatemala Reviews
Bigfoot Hostel Sep 30, 2016
Bigfoot Hostel in Antigua is almost invisible from the street. It is located very close to the center square, on the busy street that has many stores, shops, restaurants. At the night there are few places to party in the close vicinity to the hotel so it is very lively and busy. Entrance looks like small restaurant because of tables that are usually full with people chilling and checking the internet.
Bigfoot has an amazing kitchen with a serious cook that makes incredible food (cook was a young Austrian guy that had amazing passion towards everything that he was making). I don’t even know how to explain the quality and love that goes in that food. I am VERY impressed. Prices are not high in any way, actually they are average and good even for backpackers. Kitchen is on the second floor and it looks very modern with lots of cool design elements. All around hostel walls you can see cool drawings and designs. I totally like their style, and it is definitely appealing to young backpacker crowd.
So, on the second floor you will find large space for playing games, billiard table, and very nice TV room. There are also very strong lockers that you can use and lock with your own lock. That’s important for me when staying in the hostels with lots of people passing through the dormitories.
Room was a bit dark, but very good. It had its own bathroom that was fairly clean (until some nasty girls filled my dorm with all kinds of smelly and dirty things spread all over the floors and bathroom…). Every bed has a light and a curtain that separates you pretty effectively from the rest of the room. Beds are very look too, which is kind of important for my height… Outside of the room there were few other bathrooms so waiting for the restroom was not an issue.
This hostel is in the few buildings that are interconnected with stairs and hallways. That seems to be a recurring style for most of the hostels in older cities where backyards were used to build more buildings. Reception is right on the entrance and there is also security guy that checks who has a bracelet. That is the only entrance so it is pretty secure to stay here and keep your stuff intact.
Reception is also organizing all kinds of tours and activities, and they have book with lots of things you can choose from. Prices of the tours are similar to most of the agencies around, and you can also buy some bus tickets to most of the places in Guatemala and surrounding countries.
I felt pretty comfortable in this hostel. Being in the center of the town is perfect for exploration and food foraging. There are many historic and beautiful places that you will need few days to cover them all. Do not miss the market because it is very picturesque and good. I really love this area of Guatemala, and I warmly suggest you to visit it any time you can!
