Fabulous ! Aug 08, 2010
It's a really great pagoda in Xian , as I read maybe is the most famous Buddhist pagoda all over the China !

It is together with Da Cien Temple where mean temple of thanksgiving .

A lot of monuments to this area and a big park around of the Big Wild Goose Pagoda to be 64 meter and if I remember well seven something floors .

The temple inside is really amazing with many Buddhas and many other carvings .

Just get to the top of pagoda and the view was so excite and specially . I saw the city from a really panoramic view and I recoup for the many steps until the top :)

And of course the great fountain which change shapes !

I recommended because is fantastic !

Boring pagoda and expensive! Apr 07, 2008
It costs 25 yuan to enter the grounds, but another 20 to go up top. Since the views of the city weren't that spectular, we didn't go up. The grounds were nice enough, drinks were decent for a toursit spot, but a Snickers bar was 15 yuan (about $2.15)! I can get a Snickers bar in the supermarket for about 4 yuan ($0.57).

It's in all of the tourist books, but it wasn't worth the hefty price tag to me.

As the symbol of the old-line Xian, Big Wild Goose Pagoda is a well-preserved ancient building and a holy place for Buddhists. It is located in the southern suburb of Xian City, about 4 kilometers (2.49 miles) from the downtown of the city. Standing in the Da Ci'en Temple complex, it attracts numerous visitors for its fame in the Buddhist religion, its simple but appealing style of construction, and its new square in front of the temple.

The Big Wild Goose Pagoda (Dayan Ta) ,a famous Buddhist Pagoda and the Symbol of Xian Sep 24, 2006
The Big Wild Goose Pagoda or Giant Wild Goose Pagoda(Dayan Ta),the symbol of Xian, situated in the Da Ci'en complex temple in the southern suburb of Xian(at the place of the formerly Tang capital Chiang'an),4 km from the urban center,is a famous Buddhist square shaped pagoda built during the Tang dynasty in 652 AD to collect Buddhist sutras.

The Buddhist monk Xuanzang,a famous traveller and translater, after a 17 year pilgrimage, brought back from India more 600 Buddhist texts and figurines of the Buddha. The Pagoda was then built to house them.

Initially the pagoda had 5 stories and 60 m in height. After different reconstruction and renovation,it is now 65 m hign with 7 stories.

Visitors are allowed to climb it.
