Big Meadows Lodge in Shenandoah National Park Reviews

Sep 09, 2007
Big Meadow Lodge, at 3,510 ft. on Skyline Drive, is one of two lodges in Shenandoah National Park. It offers guest rooms in the man lodge as well as individual cabins and a newer annex. Some of the cabins include their own kitchens. The lodge and annex rooms overlook the Shenandoah Valley. Big Meadows Lodge was constructed in the 1930s by the Civilian Conservation Corps and has a rustic appearance with local stone and timber construction.

The high-beam ceiling dining room provides a hearty selection for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Be sure to try the blueberry ice cream or a blueberry sundae for dessert! After breakfast or dinner, guests like to gather in the great room for coffee or along the observation deck for a view of the valley below. On a clear night, you’ll see the lights of Stanley, VA. The New Market Tap Room offers live entertainment in the evening along with light fare and beverage service.

Big Meadows has several hiking and nature trails on the property. The Appalachian Trail runs right alongside the property. A short hike to the Black Rock scenic overlook is a must. The lodge is also a great base for further exploration of Shenandoah National Park and a base for day hikes along the park’s many trails. The lodge will supply guests with a box lunch if desired. The Byrd Visitor Center is located at the turnoff for the lodge. A camp store, with outdoor supplies and food, and a gift store are also located here.
